GST collection up 56% to Rs 1.44 lakh cr in June

Fourth straight month to cross Rs 1.4 lakh-cr mop-up

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of June stood at Rs 1.44 lakh crore, which was marginally above the intake of Rs 1.41 lakh crore in May. The collection was nowhere near the record mop-up of Rs 1.68 lakh crore in April but in a solace to the government, the figures remained above the Rs 1.40 lakh crore-mark for the fourth straight month which suggested a certain stabilization.

An official statement said the revenue for the month of June was 56% higher than Rs 92,800 crore collected in the same month last year, which happened to be a pandemic month. The gross GST collection in June is the second highest collection next to the April collection of Rs 1,67,540 crore, it added.

Among north Indian states, the intake from Himachal fell to Rs 693 crore in June from Rs 741 crore in May and Rs 817 crore in April. The collection from Punjab also fell to Rs 1,683 crore from Rs 1,833 crore in May and Rs 1,994 crore in April. But Haryana collection rose to Rs 6,714 crore in June from Rs 6,663 crore in May and Rs 8,197 crore in April.

The intake from Delhi rose to Rs 4,313 crore from Rs 4,113 crore in May. Chandigarh collection also rose to Rs 170 crore from Rs 167 crore in May. The collections from J&K remained static at Rs 372 crore.

The average monthly gross GST collection for the first quarter of FY 2022-23 has been Rs 1.51 lakh crore against the average monthly collection of Rs 1.10 lakh crore in the first quarter of the previous fiscal, showing an increase of 37%. Coupled with economic recovery, anti-evasion activities, especially action against fake billers have been contributing to the enhanced GST. The gross cess collection in this month is the highest since the introduction of GST, said the government statement.
